The end of the greatest crime in human history

On May 8, 1945 Nazi-Germany signed a document of unconditional surrender in front of representatives of the three Western Allies (USA, UK and France). On May 9 it was signed in Berlin in the presence of the representatives of the Soviet Union. With the end of World War II in Europe the Holocaust, the greatest crime in human history, finally came to a halt.

The end of the greatest suffering of Jewish experience

The genocide of six out of eleven million European Jewish people was the greatest tragedy in the last four thousand years of Jewish experience. For us Christians who love the Jewish people with the love of God, this is an appropriate moment to identify with their unique suffering 70 years ago and to obey the call of God: “Comfort ye, comfort ye, my people…”  (Isa. 40, 1)

The contribution of Christian Anti-Semitism towards the Holocaust

This crime, this suffering happened in Christian Europe. It happened as a direct result of replacement theology, which developed from the times of the church fathers and became accepted as main-stream by most major churches. It happened through out centuries of terrible Jewish persecution in almost every nation of Christian Europe. Replacement theology and the history of persecution are two causal factors that paved the way for the Holocaust.

To celebrate

The victory over Hitler and Nazi-Germany

Christians around the world, especially Christians belonging to those four allied nations victorious over Hitler and Nazi-Germany, have a reason to celebrate and to thank God. Just imagine for a moment what the world would have looked like if Hitler had won World War II!

The victory of Jewish-Christian values and morals over Anti-Jewish and Anti-Christian ideologies

From a Christian point of view, we recognize the unique contribution of prayer in addition to the strength of biblical, Jewish-Christian heritage and morals in this victory over Hitler-Germany and Nazi-tyranny.

The grace of God

The end of the Holocaust and World War II was an act of God’s grace and mercy. The rebirth of the modern Jewish state, Israel, only a few years later is a powerful sign of God’s faithfulness towards the Jewish people. To Him be the glory, praise and thanks! He deserves our acknowledgement and our worship. The Global Prayer DAY, which will be observed exactly 70 years after Victory in Europe Day (V Day), is a fitting occasion to do so. 

To consider

Growing Anti-Semitism, Anti-Israelism and Holocaust-denial 

Just as Europe in the late 19th and early 20th centuries grew more and more anti-Semitic,  so is our world spiraling in the same direction today. Hatred of Jews and of the Jewish state of Israel is rampant. Ignorance, minimization and even open denial of the Holocaust are spreading throughout the nations. History is  repeating itself. “Never again!” – is beginning to happen again!

The failure of the Nations then and today

More than 70 years ago most nations did nothing to come to the help of the Jewish people in Europe and if they did it was very, very late. Today most nations do not understand the radical, deadly nature of the militant Islamic threat against Israel, similar to the ignorance towards the existential threat of European Jewry in the middle of the 20th century.

The unique responsibility of the Christian church

More than 70 years ago the majority of the Christian world and the Christian church turned a blind eye to the mounting threats against the Jews of Europe. How about today? Did we learn from history? Do we understand the signs of the times today? Are we taking up our calling as “salt and light” and as “priests and prophets” towards our own nations as they move towards the “valley of decision” (Joel 3, 14) either to become a “sheep or goat nation” (Matt. 25,31ff)?

Dear praying church around the world

It is time to commemorate! It is time to celebrate! It is time to consider!

We suggest three ways in which we can accomplish this:

1. Make the decision to join Christians all over the world for the Global Prayer DAY on May 8/9, 2015. Organize a prayer meeting on one or both of these days in your home or church.
