President Rivlin to make State Visit to Spain

President Reuven and First Lady Nechama Rivlin will make a State Visit to Spain next week from November 5th to  November 8th. The President will be accompanied by a business delegation of leading Israeli companies and trade figures, and an academic delegation including leading figures and Nobel Prize laureates.

The following is a schedule of their visit:

Sunday, 5 November 

Morning – President & First Lady Rivlin will depart for Madrid, Spain.
17:30 (16:30 Spain) – President Rivlin will meet leaders of the Spanish Jewish community. Official coverage only.
19:00 (18:00 Spain) – President Rivlin will be guest of honor at a special event hosted by the Jewish community at the Ibn Gabriol School in Madrid. Open coverage.

Monday, 6 November

11:30 (10:30 Spain) – President & First Lady Rivlin will be received at an official state reception by King Felipe VI of Spain at the Royal Palace (Palacio De Oriente). The ceremony will include the playing of national anthems and a guard of honor. Open coverage.
12:15 (11:15 Spain) – President Rivlin will lay wreath at the Monument to the Fallen for Spain. Official coverage only.
12:30 (11:30 Spain) – President Rivlin will be awarded the Key to the City of Madrid by the city’s mayor, Manuela Carmena, at a ceremony at the City Hall. Official coverage only.
14:35 (13:45 Spain) – President and First Lady Rivlin will be hosted at the royal residence, the Palace of Zarzuela, where the President and the King will hold a private meeting. A photo-op at the beginning of the meeting will be open to media coverage.
21:00 (20:00 Spain) – President and First Lady Rivlin will be guests of honor at a State Dinner at the Royal Palace, where both the President and the King will deliver opening addresses. Official coverage only.

Tuesday, 7 November

12:00 (11:00 Spain) – President Rivlin will open an economic conference at the offices of the Spanish manufacturers association. Also speaking will be Spain’s Minister of Economy, Industry and Competitiveness, Luis de Guindos; President of Israeli Manufacturers Association, Shraga Brosh; and others. Open coverage.
13:00 (12:00 Spain) – President Rivlin will address a special plenary of both the Senate and Congress of the Spanish parliament. The President will be received by President of the Senate, Pío García-Escudero Márquez, and President of the Congress of Deputies, Ana María Pastor Julián. During the event, the President will be awarded the medals of both houses and sign the official guest book. The President’s speech will be open to media coverage and streamed live via: http://www.senado.es/streaming/p8.html
14:15 (13:45 Spain) – President Rivlin will hold a working meeting with Prime Minister of Spain Mariano Rajoy. The two will oversee the signing of bilateral agreements between the two countries. The photo-op at the beginning of the meeting will be open to the media.
15:30 (16:30 Spain) – President Rivlin will meet with President of Real Madrid, Florentino Pérez. The meeting will take place in the context of the educational, social action activity being led by Real Madrid, and the activities of the President’s Office in Israel, under the title “Israeli Hope in Sports: The Shield of Honor.” Open coverage.
21:00 (20:00 Spain) – As is customary in Spain, President and First Lady Rivlin will host a reception in honor of King Felipe and Queen Letizia VI of Spain. The opening addresses will be open to the media.

Wednesday, 8 November

11:00 (10:00 Spain) – President Rivlin will tour the city of Toledo, where he will meet the region’s mayor, Milagros Tolón Jaime. The President will visit sites of Jewish history in the city including the old synagogue. Open coverage.
Evening – President and First Lady Rivlin will return to Israel.
